Who this tool is for
Researchers investigating mixed farming systems, including wheat, canola and pasture rotations with a range of beef or sheep grazing enterprises, a hay-cutting operation or ungrazed grassland.
Questions this tool answers
What would be the result of different inputs (including a range of climate conditions) and outputs on a mixed cropping and grazing system?
What would be the result of different inputs (including a range of climate conditions) and outputs on a mixed cropping and grazing system?
What this tool does
AusFarm is a software package that allows researchers to simulate the outcomes of different management strategies for livestock, grassland and cropping operations on a mixed farm or across a variable landscape.
It can be used from the paddock scale up to whole landscapes.
Inputs
AusFarm uses climate data from the Bureau of Meteorology.
Outputs
After processing a simulation analysis, AusFarm produces a report showing the results similar to that shown in Figure 1.

Reliability
AusFarm is based on the well tested Grassgro and APSIM tools.
It uses CSIRO’s Common Modelling Protocol to process the simulations.
History
AusFarm was developed by CSIRO Plant Industries, Canberra.
Support available
CSIRO provides an AusFarm tutorial and details about the model.
Where to get it
You can buy a licence for AusFarm from Horizon Agriculture.
